His early artistic interests are not known, but he completed his secondary education at the Ecole De Beaux Arts in Le Havre before travelling to Paris in 1889 to continue his studies at the l'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs and l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

Organisateur d'entrées solennelles, architecte de plusieurs monuments, poète, Jean Perréal est surtout célèbre pour être un peintre officiel des rois Charles VIII, Louis XII et François Ier. Son œuvre se situe à la charnière entre la fin du Moyen Âge et l'essor de la Renaissance. Ayant fait un voyage en Italie autour de l'an 1500, il peint des portraits novateurs qui inspirent Corneille de Lyon ou Jean Clouet.
